Oboist Virginia Chang Chien enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and educator. She has performed numerous concerts in significant venues, such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, UN and the United States Capitol. Her solo performance has gained acclaim as " lyrical and thoughtful flow" by music critics "The Glass' ' and “Soundwordsight”. Among Virginia's career highlights, she was invited as music residency at Banff Centre, Canada and a guest artist at Eleazar de Carvalho Festival in Brazil. After her Carnegie Hall debut , she was commissioned by New York Composer Circle to premiere contemporary works. In 2017, she released an EP featuring contemporary solo work for oboe and her first album “Oboist: Virginia ChangChien '' featuring works of Marcello, Schumann and Ravel, labeled by MEII Enterprise INC, NYC. Her albums are sold on Amazon, Apple music, Spotify and other streaming platforms. In the past seasons, she has been invited to Bear Valley Festival and collaborated with recognized artists including Olga Kern, Michael Mogan, Kelly Hall-Tompkins, Inva Mula and Ryo Goto. She is an artistic director of “Phantasy Trio”. The debut concert received favorable reviews. In 2023, She was invited as Klavierhaus' concert artist, as well as the first oboist to present a concert called " Oboe, Viola and Piano Trio", and also had a concert tour with "Phantasy Trio" in Taiwan. She received a Master’s degree at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queen College (CUNY). Her mentors include Humbert Lucarelli , Gordon Hunt, Washington Barella, and Sarah Skuster.
As a soloist, she has performed concertos including Bach double concerto for violin and oboe , Barber Concerto, Marcello Concerto, J.Rietz Concerto, Vaughan Williams Concerto and Gossens Concerto. As a seasoned orchestral player, other appearances include with the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra, UN woodwind quintet, the Ureuk Symphony, Bergen Symphony Orchestra and La Jolla Symphony.
